Performance Rights Information and Pricing

Book prices, whether paper or electronic, do not include performace rights. Performance rights fees are calculated separately and may be purchased at the time that books are purchased or at a later date. All amounts are in US Dollars (PayPal will automatically calculate most international currency exchange rates when processing transactions). Prices and policies are subject to change without notice.

    Paper Copies

    Single paper copies of Mr. Loverde's plays sold directly through this site are:

  • One-acts: $5.00 per copy + $2.50 shipping in the United States
  • Full-length plays: $10.00 per copy + $3.00 shipping in the United States
  • PDF Copies

    Copies of Mr. Loverde's plays sold directly through this site in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format are:

  • One-acts: $5.00 (includes license to print five paper copies)
  • Full-length plays: $10.00 (includes license to print five paper copies)
  • Please note that the above amounts include a license permitting the purchaser to print no more than five copies of the play. A license to print additional copies of the play may be purchased at the following rates:

  • One-acts: $0.50 per additional paper copy
  • Full-length plays: $1.00 per additional paper copy
  • If a PDF becomes damaged or corrupted, verified purchasers may request that a replacement PDF be e-mailed to them at no charge.

    No shipping is charged for PDF purchases (for obvious reasons).

    The purchase price of a PDF version includes a license to print paper copies only. Redistribution of the PDF file in any manner whatsoever including but not limited to electronic distribution via e-mail, web publishing, or any other form of computer- or modem-based distribution, or on any computer or other storage medium is strictly prohibited.

    All non-US purchasers will receive the plays in PDF format.

    Performance Categories

    Non-Performance

    Copies of the play are purchased solely for personal reading enjoyment or for evaluative purposes in anticipation of a possible performance in the future.

    Audition

    Material from the play is used for audition purposes provided that such performances are evaluated by one or more third party observers, and such performances represent an excerpt of the play lasting less than ten (10) minutes.

    Classroom

    Performances are given by a student or students in a classroom (and not an auditorium or other theater space) in front of forty (40) or fewer classmates at an elementary school, junior high school, high school, college, or other post-secondary institution where classroom performances are part of the course curriculum.

    Festival Excerpts

    The play is performed at a school theatrical festival provided that such performances are adjudicated by one or more third party observers, and such performances represent an excerpt of the play lasting less than ten (10) minutes.

    Amateur

    This category includes performances staged by little theaters, community theaters, drama associations, colleges, universities, high schools, other school groups, churches and other religious institutions, puppet theaters, clubs, and other amateur organizations or groups.

    Professional

    This category includes performances given in any theater or by any group using a producing cast which consists entirely, or of a majority, of paid actors and production staff, and/or has normally been known and handled as stock, including puppetry theaters, Council of Off Loop Theaters (COLT), Council of Stock Theaters (COST), League of Regional Theaters (LORT), regional theaters, dinner theaters, repertory productions, Off Off Broadway and Off Broadway productions, first class professional road and first class touring productions.

    Broadway/West End

    This category includes performances given in a Broadway or West End Theater or their professional equivalent.

    Performance Rights Rates

    Any performance of a play obtained through this website must be approved and licensed by Emmett Loverde except for those obtained through Playscripts, Inc. which has its own similar licensing and approval policies. This applies to all types of performances, whether given by paid or unpaid actors and production staff, whether public or private, and with or without an admission fee.

    Non-Performance, Audition, Classroom, or Festival Excerpts

    No royalty is charged, but the playwright would appreciate being notified of when such performances are scheduled and whether he would be welcome to attend.

    Amateur

  • One-acts: $25.00 per performance
  • Full-length plays: $50.00 per performance
  • Shortly after the purchase of Amateur performance rights, the purchaser will be e-mailed a form requesting specific information about the production. Completing and e-mailing back the form and providing the requested information will enable Mr. Loverde to prepare and e-mail back a performance contract outlining the details of the production and the specific rights being granted.

    The performance contract should be printed, signed, and mailed back (U.S. Mail or comparable courier, please) to Mr. Loverde or the rights will not be granted and the royalty payment will be refunded (provided no performances of the play have yet taken place).

    Professional

  • One-acts and full-length plays: 8% of box office gross
  • Upon purchase of performance rights, an initial royalty fee is required which is 2% of anticipated box office revenues, calculated as follows:

    Number of performances X Seating capacity X Standard ticket price X 2%

    Shortly after the purchase of Professional performance rights, the purchaser will be e-mailed a form requesting specific information about the production. Completing and e-mailing back the form and providing the requested information will enable Mr. Loverde to prepare and e-mail back a performance contract outlining the details of the production and the specific rights being granted.

    The performance contract should be printed, signed, and mailed back (U.S. Mail or comparable courier, please) to Mr. Loverde or the rights will not be granted and the royalty payment will be refunded (provided no performances of the play have yet taken place and it is no later than seven (7) days before the first scheduled performance).

    The full royalty due is 8% of gross box office revenues.

    This amount is due weekly, along with appropriate receipts.

    Broadway/West End

    Amateur Performance Rights

    Royalty payments for cancelled performances cannot be refunded after the date of the last performance specified by the customer.

    Professional Performance Rights

    Royalty payments for cancelled performances can be refunded up to seven (7) days before the first performance.

    Every effort has been made to formulate a fair, reasonable pricing structure. Please respect the policies listed on this page! Xeroxing or printing unlicensed additional copies of the plays, mounting unlicensed performances, or underreporting box office receipts may save you or your organization a few dollars but such actions will violate the law and expose you to costly legal action.
